Ayurvedic Treatment of Psoriasis

Fed up of scratching your itchy scalp or crusty skin all day long?

Is the soreness on your red bumpy skin making your life miserable?

Are those scaly patches deteriorating your confidence?

Does your dry skin fall off like powder?

All these are alarming signs of a auto-immune, skin disorder known as Psoriasis. This chronic inflammatory skin disorder is characterized by severe itchy skin, silver scaly patches, red bumpy rashes with soreness and cracked dry skin that may ooze blood. It is quite troublesome and may cause life long scarring. A person may develop these psoriatic patches over the scalp, ears, eyelids, mouth and lips, hands, elbows, joints, genitalia, palm, nails and feet.

Why are you suffering from Psoriasis?

Your immune system consists of specific white blood cells known as T cells. Generally, these white blood cells attack and destroy intruders such as bacteria that enter our body. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder. Sometimes the immune system and other triggers may cause the T cells to mistakenly attack the skin cells as intruders.

This leads to swelling/ inflammation due to which the skin growth of your body speeds up and becomes far more faster than the ability of your body to shed off older skin. So, the new skin is formed as scaly patches over the old skin. These patches can be ruddy or silvery.

Is psoriasis genetic?

Psoriasis can affect anyone i.e. men, women and children irrespective of their age. You are more likely to suffer from psoriasis if anyone in your family already has it. But the exact role played by genetics isn’t clear yet.

How corticosteroids can worsen your psoriasis?

Corticosteroids are medicated steroids which are used in the treatment of psoriasis. But these steroids increase the dependence of patients and reduce their immunity. Prolonged use steroids can worsen your psoriasis causing pigmentation of skin, stretch marks, thinning of skin, infections and increased hair growth in certain areas.

Ayurvedic Perspective Of Psoriasis

In Ayurveda, skin allergy has been compared with Kitibha by some and Mandal Rog by others.Ayurvedic acharyas work in accordance with placing it as Kitibha which has presented overwhelming results and cure rate. It is the imbalance between Vata and Kapha which manifests in skin. This furthermore causes accumulation of toxins in the dhatus of the body i.e. rasa, rakta, mamsa, medas, asthi, majja and shukra.
