What is Nasal Allergy?

Commonly known as: allergic rhinitis, chronic cold, cold allergy, sinus/sinusitis, hay fever and chronic rhinitis.

Understand the Root of Nasal Allergy before it is Too Late

Nasal mucosa gets irritated due to allergens and in response to these, patient starts sneezing excessively along with too much secretion which is responsible for all the above listed symptoms. These secretions cause runny nose and fall in the throat, causing itching in the throat. This further compels patients to swallow the secretions repeatedly. If these secretions go to lungs, they can cause severe condition that is Asthma. When these secretions go towards the ears, it causes Blockage and Ringing sounds in the ears. Accumulation of the secretions in hollow cavities (sinuses) behind face area results in congestion in cheeks and head.

Complications

Untreated nasal allergy or allergic rhinitis can cause complications:

  1. If nasal allergy persists for years, it can cause chest allergy or allergic bronchitis and asthma as most of the asthmatic patients have previous history of nasal allergy.
  2. It can cause outgrowth in the nose and may form polyps in the nose which further increases nasal allergy.
  3. It can cause sinusitis which is also known as sinus.
  4. Patients become dependent on steroidal inhalers as well as pumps which can further reduce the size of the lungs causing it to shrink permanently.
  5. Excessive nasal secretions that fall in the throat can cause tonsillitis also.
  6. It can cause congestion in the ears. This furthermore puts pressure on eardrum and can cause hearing loss or ear infection.

Why putting cow’s ghee in nostrils is the most important for Nasal Allergy Patients?

Arogyam was the pioneer in telling it to the masses about this home remedy for nasal allergy. As a result of adapting this effective practice, millions of patients have been saved from nasal allergy.

Put 2-2 drops of pure, Indian breed desi cow ghee in your nostrils every morning. If the ghee enters your throat, then just apply ghee in nostrils with your finger only. It will make a protective layer in your nose so that allergy particles cannot touch nasal mucosa and start allergies. This is the first step we recommend to our patients in nasal allergy treatment.

It creates a coat of ghee on the mucosa which acts as a barrier between the allergens that tend to irritate your nasal mucosa and further produce nasal problems.

Proven Research-Based Home Remedies for Nasal Allergy Patients

  1. As discussed above, putting cow’s ghee in nostrils has proven to be the best way to treat nasal allergy at home.
  2. Take 2 gm of pure turmeric cooked in a cup of cow’s milk. This prepares the body to fight against allergies.
  3. Preparations made from Amla and Tulsi are also recommended for nasal allergy.
  4. Pipli Doogdh Paak” is another effective home remedy for nasal allergy. Cow’s milk can be used for making a decoction. Boil Pipali (piper longum) in 1 cup of cow’s milk and 1 cup of water mixed together. Let it boil till 1 cup of milk is left. Strain and drink this potion.
  5. Mix 1 spoon of honey and one spoon of ginger juice. Consume it twice a day for healthy functioning of the body.
  6. Taking 2 gm of liquorice (Mulethi) mixed with honey or with warm water is very good for nasal allergy patients.

Ayurvedic Treatment of Nasal Allergy

Lifestyle & Dietary Changes for Nasal Allergy Patients

Ayurvedic Perspective of Nasal Allergy

In ancient Ayurvedic texts, nasal allergy has been placed under the category of Dusht Pratishay. It is the imbalance between the Pitta and Kapha Doshas. The Ojas i.e. the immunity and the Jatharagni i.e. the digestive fire should also be taken into consideration while treating a nasal allergy patient.

The herbal medicines broadly used to treat allergy are:

1) Chitrak

2) Haridra

3) Tulsi

4) Pippali

5) Amla

Why anti-allergics and steroids are more harmful than you can imagine?

  1. Anti-allergics have the following side-effects:

a. They provide short term relief i.e. symptomatic relief to the patients.

b. They cause dependence and sedation to the patients.

c. According to Canadian Medical Association Journal, long-term use of antihistamines may increase the risk of dementia.

d. Anti-allergics may also cause memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease.

e. Despite all these side-effects, the cure rate of these allergies is still 0%

Excess use of nasal spray and nasal drops can form outgrowth in the nose called nasal polyps and cause loss of sense of smell i.e. called anosmia.

3 Long term use of steroids in treatment of Nasal Allergy can cause weight gain, hypertension, diabetes and weakness in the bones, decreases the immunity and cause organ damage.

4 Extended use of antibiotics can also cause acidity, indigestion and ulcers.
