Ayurvedic Treatment of Dust Allergy

Dust mites are nasty nanoscopic bugs which breed in the dust and humidity in your home. They are found in dust-laden places as well as on carpets, pillows, cushions, curtains, mattresses, beddings, sofas, etc where skin is shed from the bodies and heads of people. Dust mites feed on to these dead skin cells! Scary enough…..right? They are not at all healthy for your body. Their faeces and dead body consists of a protein which can reduce your immunity causing diversified allergies.

What is Dust Allergy?

Dust allergy is the congestion of nose due to inhalation of dust particles. When dust particles laden with dust mites enter your nasal cavity, they cause allergy to your nasal mucosa. It is characterized by persistent sneezing, blocked or stuffy nose, red or watery eyes, itchy throat, coughing, falling of secretions into the throat, facial and nasal congestion.

Ayurvedic Perspective of Dust Allergy

In ancient Ayurvedic texts, dust allergy is exhibited under the category of Dusht Pratishay which is an imbalance between the Pitta and Kapha Doshas. While treating a patient suffering from dust allergy, one needs to give due attention to The Ojas i.e. the immunity and the Jatharagni i.e. the digestive fire. The herbal medicines which are usually used in the treatment of dust allergy are Chitrak(Plumbago zeylanica), Haridra(Curcuma longa), Tulsi(Ocimum sanctum), Pippali(Piper longum) and Amla(Phyllanthus emblica).

Research Based Home Remedy Of Dust Allergy

Put 2-2 drops of Indian breed desi cow ghee in nostrils in the morning only. It prevents dust from entering the nose, thus protecting the nasal mucosa from dust particles for the entire day. Dust is the main culprit. Once it is prevented, dust allergy will be protected. It is called Nasya. It has many more health benefits.

  1. Prevents greying of hair and hair loss.
  2. Delays ageing of face.
