Ayurvedic Treatment of Chest Allergy

Let us make you familiar with the bitter truth that there is no permanent cure of chest allergies in allopathic treatment.

  1. Being Ayurvedic Allergy specialist, we treat patients with a holistic approach and render them with a permanent immunity.
  2. We have been doing extensive research on allergies from the last 20 years which aids in curing allergies from its roots.

What is Chest Allergy?

Chest allergy or asthma is the oversensitivity of the air passage from the throat to the lungs(lower respiratory tract). It is characterized by wheezes in the chest, difficulty in breathing, coughing and tightness in chest. Mostly associated with sneezing, blocked/watery nose falling of secretions in the throat, ringing sound in the ears etc.

How You Catch Chest Allergy?

Patients may experience one or more of these symptoms in case of chest allergy:

  1. If you are already suffering from nasal allergy then the increased nasal secretions fall from your throat into your lungs. This causes wheezes and difficulty in breathing.
  2. When allergy particles like dust, pollution, pollens from flowers, directly go to bronchioles, it causes allergic reactions in chest.
  3. Chest allergies are hereditary(genetic), so you are at a risk of developing chest allergies if it’s in your genes.

Why Chest Allergy and Nasal Allergy Occur At The Same Time?

Nose and chest are the parts of respiratory system. So, allergy particles which affect the nasal also affect the chest region.Hence you are more likely to suffer from chest and nasal allergy at the same time.

Most Common Allergy Particles

  1. Harvesting and rice thresh
  2. Dust Particles
  3. Pollution or smoke particles
  4. Pollen from flowers i.e. hay fever
  5. Mold Spores in humid areas like kitchen or bathrooms.
  6. Cigarette smoke or passive smoking
  7. Pollution and smoke emitted by industries firecrackers, cars and so on.
  8. Pet dander (especially cats and dogs)
  9. Foods: Sometimes chest allergy can also occur due to allergic reaction to certain foods i.e. peanuts, walnuts, sour fruits like oranges, lemons etc.

Patients may experience one or more of these symptoms in case of chest allergy:

  1. Discomfort or tightness in chest
  2. Wheezing or ringing sounds in chest
  3. Chest congestion or phlegm in chest
  4. Too much sneezing, runny or blocked nose
  5. Dry cough which transforms into wet cough
  6. Coughing up flecks of blood
  7. Shortness of breath
  8. Itching in throat
  9. Using pumps and bronchodilators like diphyllum

What Triggers Chest Allergy?

  1. Wheat husk during harvesting season and rice thresh during the paddy season.
  2. Certain painkillers like Aspirin and ibuprofens, can worsen your allergy
  3. Too much stress and stringent exercise
  4. Humid areas under the sinks and in the bathrooms or in rainy season
  5. Coming out from an AC room to a non AC environment
  6. Smoke from cooking in the Kitchen (Tadka)
  7. In metro cities and during Diwali when the pollution is very high
  8. Certain strong smells like perfumes, incense sticks(Agarbatti)

Untreated chest allergy can cause complications:

  1.  It leads to allergic bronchitis which is the inflammation of the airways in the lungs and poses difficulty in breathing.
  2. Shrugging off allergic bronchitis can furthermore cause allergic asthma which can be life threatening. Sometimes, the asthma attack flares up causing emergency for patients.
  3. Shrinkage of lungs

How Does Fungal Growth Leads To Allergic Asthma?

Some fungi are normally present in our respiratory tract. Too much humidity in the atmosphere transforms these fungi in active form and causes sensitization of nasal as well as respiratory mucous membrane. This leads to allergic asthma. In such cases it is mandatory to increase our immunity to stop the growth of fungus.

How Steroids, Pumps And Bronchodilators Worsen Your Allergy?

Pumps and Bronchodilators are symptomatic treatment which may relieve the symptoms for a short-span but the allergy will occur again. They increase the dependence of patients and reduces their immunity. Also, antibiotics and steroids used in the treatment of asthma kills the useful bacteria in lungs as well as the whole body. This causes increased growth of Candida fungi which further increases the asthma. Hence, steroids and pumps pose serious side-effects and can even cause permanent shrinkage of lungs.

Why weightloss is essential for chest allergy?

Breathing is aided by abdominal muscles (belly). More the belly fat, lesser will be the working of respiratory muscles. Thus, it affects respiration. So, doctors recommend to lose those extra kilos if you want to prevent, or are already suffering with, chest allergy.

Ayurvedic Perspective Of Chest Allergy

According to ayurvedic text a special reference to diseases of the chest has been mentioned. Charak Chikitsa Sthan and Sushruta Uttar Sthan have full Adhaya or chapters dedicated to diseases of the chest.Kasa Roga i.e. cough has been stated with different types of Kas Rog.According to different kinds of symptoms, it is manifested by different causes.Chikitsa i.e. treatment of all kinds of Kas has been specially given.Swas Rog i.e. breathing difficulty due to diseases of the chest or some allergies have been stated.Among the different kinds of Swas Rog, Tamak Shwas has been compared with bronchial asthma.Hiccoughs i.e. Hikka Roga has also been mentioned along with these diseases.

Majorly we can say that all the above diseases are caused by aggravation of Pranvayu and when it tries to come out of the mouth with pressure a sound of Hik Hik is created or the patient coughs or faces difficulty in breathing.
